Every registered domain name has no less than 2 Name Server records that show where it's hosted i.e. by using these records you point your domain name to the servers of a particular hosting provider. In this way, you've got both your website and your e-mails handled by the exact same provider. On the lower level of the Domain Name System (DNS), on the other hand, there are a number of other records, such as A and MX. The first one shows which server handles the website for a given Internet domain and is always an IP address (123.123.123.123), while the second one indicates which server manages the e-mails and is always an alphanumeric string (mx1.domain.com). For instance, when you type a domain name in your Internet browser, your request is forwarded through the global DNS system to the provider whose NS records the domain name uses and from there you will be sent to the servers of another provider provided you have set an IP address of the latter as an A record for your domain. Having independent records for the site and the e-mails means that you may have your website and your e-mails with 2 different companies if you'd like.

Custom MX and A Records in Shared Hosting

The Hepsia hosting CP, which comes with each and every Linux shared package that we offer, allows you to view, modify and set up A and MX records for every domain name or subdomain in your account. From the DNS Records section, you will be able to view a list of all hosts inside the account in alphabetical order with their related records, so any update won't take you more than a couple of clicks. Creating new records is just as simple if, as an example, you wish to use the email services of a different company and they ask you to set up more MX records than the default two. You can also set the priority for every single MX record by setting different latency. In other words, when your emails are delivered, the sending server is going to contact the record with the smallest latency first and in case the connection times out, it's going to contact the next one. Using our advanced tool, you're going to be able to control the records of your domains and subdomains with ease even when you have no previous experience with such matters.
